STEM education is an approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Through STEM, students develop key skills including: problem solving. creativity. critical analysis.
The SMRP STEM Week was held on 12 – 16 June 2023, it ended with an exhibition on 16 June attended by parents.
STEM activities conducted during the week:
- Escape Room – students solved quizzes (STEM problems) to exit the maze.
- STEM workshops:
- Frog dissection (for Form 4 students)
- How to simulate volcano eruption using lemon (all students)
- STEM Theme Park Competition (Form 1 – Form 3): Students were required to work in groups to build a functional facility of an amusement park by using recyclable materials, except cardboard. The size of the model should not be larger than an “A3” size paper.
- STEM exhibition
- Lucky Draw (all students) – Students were given a different set of questions (exhibition-related) to answer. Successful candidates will be chosen by lucky draw to pick the winner for the competition.
The activities and competition helped to instill a positive attitude in students towards STEM subjects which would encourage them to apply STEM knowledge in their daily activities.
