Reading is absolutely an important skill that students should master to help them acquire knowledge on their own besides learning from their teachers.
The objective of the DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) session was to encourage the students to read independently and develop sustained silent reading skills. The students were required to read from 7.45 a.m. to 8.00 a.m. every morning, from Monday to Friday.
They were allowed to choose suitable reading materials from the school library or home, in advance of the session, and they should read in a silent and sustained manner.
It was delighted to see that the students slowly picked up the skill and benefited from the specially designed programme.
