Did you know that rainforests once covered 14% of our world’s surface? Now sadly they cover between 3-4% of the world. This week, Year 4 students started the IPC unit “Saving the World”, which will be about how diverse, wonderful, and unique our rainforests are as well as what we need to do to ensure their survival.

For entry point, Year 4 students worked together to transform their classroom into a rainforest setting using recycled and craft materials. That was really exciting and fun! In Knowledge Harvest, they made a mindmap to record what we already know about rainforests and shared it with each other.

Rainforest Fun Facts (Knowledge Harvest) from:

Amanda Eryna: Most species of rainforest animals live in the canopy layer of the rainforest!
Keith Ang: The world’s most poisonous frog (Golden Poison Dart Frog) lives in the rainforest!
Ker Min Ho: The largest rainforest in the world is located in South America and it is the Amazon Rainforest (Amazonia). It is home to many kinds of fungi such as bird’s nest fungi and cup fungi.

**Special thanks to Amanda, Keith, Anagha, Min Ho, Lee Loo, and Mia for bringing in items from home. They are attractive and colourful additions to our classroom rainforest!
