Mission: The International Space Station is running out of vital supplies. Year 6 students are tasked to build a rocket that will deliver these supplies from Earth to the space station. They must use the available materials to work out a way of propelling their vital load across the space without it dropping or touching the ground.
Students explore ways of creating a suitable rocket and attach the ‘vital supplies’ from the rope and move it across. Most students are able to come up with a solution for this project. They attach balloons to the rocket that can be released, simulating the propulsion of a rocket as it carries the weight across space!
It was definitely a challenging task. The students wait in anticipation to test their rockets during the ‘launch’ day. Some of the rockets moved successfully but some did not. It was a good learning opportunity where students discuss in their groups on how they could improve their creation better for future launches into space.
